Respiratory Remedy

Cold and flu season will soon be upon us and chances are that many of us will feel the systems again in the near future. We can fight back with the use of essential oils.

Most essential oils are antimicrobial, so they can kill germs that cause colds and flu. Inhalation and steams are therapeutic, powerful ways to get essential oils into the respiratory system.

"Respiratory rescue" blend
30 drops of eucalyptus
20 drops of tea tree
10 drops of thyme
20 drops of cedarwood

This recipe makes a 5ml bottle. Use 5-8 drops in a room diffuser, 2 drops to a steam, 5-6 drops in a warm bath or 15-20 drops per 30ml of carrier oil for a chest rub.
 
Pumpkin Oat
Bran Muffins
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups
Oat bran
2/3 cup
Brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup All-purpose flour
2 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp

Pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp Salt
1 cup Mashed cooked pumpkin
1/2 cup Skim milk
2 Egg whites, beaten
2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  Vegetable cooking spray

Preparation
 Combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl; stir well. Make a well in center of mixture. Combine pumpkin and next 3 ingredients; stir well. Add to dry ingredients, stirring just until the dry ingredients are moistened.

Spoon batter into muffin pans coated with cooking spray or paper liners, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 425 F for 20 minutes. Remove from pans immediately.

Serve warm or at room temperature. Particularly good with a dollop of cranberry relish.
